캐나다의 한 매니아가 키트를 완벽하게(?) 복원하여 만들어 ebay에 내놓았다.
지금은 ebay에서 팔리고 없지만, 이 차량을 만들어 판 seller의 아이디는 Zapper80..
지금도 ebay를 이 아이디로 검색해보면, 전격 Z작전 (원제: Knight Rider)의 차량으로 커스텀 하기 위한
몇몇가지 부품을 팔고 있다. (스위치 판넬 등과 같은..)

이 차량을 만들기 위해 소요된 비용은 캐나다 달러로 약 $40,000..
(오늘 기준 기본환율로 환산시 약 36,862,400원 이다..

그러나 정작 출품된 가격은 $19,000 에서 시작되어 즉시구매가가 $30,000 이었다.

물론, 내/외장이 모두 KITT 지만, 마이클이 시계로 아무리 불러봤자
응답할 수도, 알아서 달려올 수도 없는... 알맹이는 80년대의 폰티악 차량이다.

하지만,  왠지
'터보' 버튼을 누르면 악당들을 사뿐히 뛰어넘을 것 같고,
흐르는 용암위를 미끄러지듯 달릴 수 있을 것 같고,
사막 도로에서 골리앗 트럭을 만나 희대의 대결을 벌려야 할 것 같고,
달리다보면 뒷문을 열어놓은 트레일러를 만나 들어가 줘야 할 것 같고,
섹시한 보니가 경광봉같이 생긴걸로 고친답시며 차량위를 미끌어지며 포즈를 잡을 것 같고,
데본이 스펙타클하고 재미있는 지령을 내려줄 것 같은 느낌이...
아주 팍팍! 든다.... 그냥 올림픽대로를 달려도 왠지 흥미진진함을 기대하며 손에 땀을 쥐게 될지도.. ^^;;

이 차를 타고 다니면,
나와 비슷한 연령대의 사람들이 에어울프랑 싸우면 누가 이기냐고 물어볼 것 같다. ㅎㅎㅎ

eBay Find of the Day: KITT up for sale

This is a picture-perfect reproduction of the Knight Industries 2000. Unfortunately, after all that money and man-hours, the gooey center is still an '80s F-Body. Canadian seller zapper80 has done an awesome job putting this car together, and claims a cost of over $40,000 CDN. Zapper80 cites original molds as the source for some of the body parts, which leads us to believe that the car was put together from the wealth of parts and information available from the enthusiastic Knight Rider fans on the web. The amount of information, and lines of communication back to KITT designer Michael Scheffe are truly astounding. No matter where everything came from, it's a hoot to see it all lit up, and even better, it all works. Well, maybe not the "Turbo Boost" function that'd send 3000 pounds of Trans-Am hurtling over bad guys. This car probably has more mojo under its hood than the original KITT the Hoff tooled around in while doing good for FLAG.

Still, even with all the effort expended, we think the reserve of $19,000 and the buy it now of $30,000 are kind of loony, even in Canadian dollars. Original fans of the series (some of us Autobloggers included) don't have the deep pockets boomers are using to push vintage musclecar prices sky-high; and perhaps our memories of Michael, Devon, and the gang aren't fond enough that we'd want to be extremely conspicuous. Perhaps the value of these cars will rise to meet zapper's hopes when the Weinsteins debut their Knight Rider movie. For the ulitmate 1984 smackdown, we envision a drag race between one of these, and a Delorean that's been defiled with all the time-machine crap. KITT would so totally kick McFly's ass.
